Addressing the core goal of the organisation, which is to conserve the delicate arid ecosystems and provide a sustainable pathway for the development of the communities living in the desert and arid regions of Gujarat. Our organisation will be conducting its activities in Kachchh, Patan, Morbi and Surrendranagar district of Gujarat. All of the four selected districit share a border with the deserted areas of Kachchh and are adjoining the Little Rann of Kachchh.
This arid landscape, characterized by its extreme temperatures, scarce water resources, and unique flora and fauna, plays a crucial role in the ecological diversity of the region.
Enormous salt marsh, undergoes dramatic transformations with the changing seasons. During the monsoon, the region experiences temporary inundation, creating a dynamic wetland that attracts a myriad of migratory birds. As the water recedes, the landscape evolves into vast salt flats, dominated by halophytic vegetation specially adapted to saline soils. This seasonal variation supports a diverse range of life forms, from microorganisms to larger animals, creating a delicate balance in the desert ecosystem
Human communities in the desert regions of Gujarat have historically adapted their lifestyles to the harsh conditions. Nomadic pastoralists, such as the Maldharis, have traditionally herded livestock, navigating the vast expanse of the desert in search of grazing areas. These communities have a deep understanding of the desert ecology and practice sustainable resource management to ensure their survival.
Kutch's ecology faces challenges. Climate change and human activities like agriculture and salt production threaten this fragile balance. Conservation efforts are underway, protecting endangered species and preserving the delicate tapestry of life.
The ecology of Banaskantha district is facing a number of challenges, including deforestation, overgrazing, and climate change. These challenges are leading to a decline in biodiversity and a degradation of the environment
Morbi's ecologichallenges like water scarcity and deforestation threaten this delicate balance. Conservation efforts are underway, protecting riverine habitats and promoting sustainable land management practices.
Patan's ecology faces challenges. Overgrazing and deforestation threaten biodiversity, while unsustainable water usage in agriculture puts pressure on precious resources. Conservation efforts are underway, with initiatives promoting afforestation and water management practices. As Patan strives for a sustainable future, its unique dryland charm and fertile riverine ecosystems remain precious ecological treasures.
Unsustainable water usage and overgrazing threaten the delicate balance. Conservation efforts are underway, with initiatives promoting reforestation and water management. As Surrendranagar strives for a balanced future, its captivating mosaic of drylands and vibrant riverine life remains a precious ecological treasure.
